Not sure what to wear to your hair and Makeup trial?
Here are some tips to ensure you get the most out of your hair and makeup trial, giving you a clearer picture of your wedding day look and boosting your confidence.
Light colour clothing
Wear a similar colour to your wedding attire. If you are wearing a white dress, wear white, cream wear a similar shade and if you are choosing to make a big bold statement with colour choose a top as near a shade as you can to match your outfit on the wedding day. If you are wearing a suit or two-piece outfit, feel free to take along the top half with you, your stylist won't mind you popping your jacket on for pictures of your hair and makeup.
Similar necklines
This is similar to choosing the correct colour, try to find the nearest neckline to your wedding day outfit. If your dress is off-the-shoulder, wear an off-the-shoulder top. There are so many styles of necklines, halterneck, sweetheart, straight, strappy or plunge. As there are so many different necklines for wedding dresses, we understand that you cannot always wear the exact neckline as your wedding dress but wearing similar necklines and colours will give you the nearest reflection of what you will look like on the day.
Jewellery and accessories
You probably haven't decided on what jewellery you will be wearing exactly and that's ok. The only decision I would say that you need to know for your makeup trial would be if you are wearing silver or gold. These are opposite tones so they will affect if your makeup will be cooler or warmer, pink or peachier shades of makeup. You want to complement your natural skin tone and will normally wear whichever tones suit you best. For your hair trial, I would suggest deciding if you are wearing drop earrings or studs, more so if you opt for a hair-up style.
Glasses or contacts
If you normally wear glasses and will be for your wedding day then do take the ones you will be wearing for the day, not your old reading glasses or those that are stuck together with tape and left in the car for driving only. If you choose to wear contacts for the big day then pop in your contacts before you head to your trial. You won't have to squint or hold your glasses up to see your bridal look and won't have to keep putting them on and taking them off.
Hairpieces, Tiaras and Bows
This isn't always decided before your trial so do not feel you need to rush out and buy something just for your trial. Your hair stylist will be able to run through some ideas for you once your hairstyle has been decided. Certain styles look better with different accessories, and some stylists prefer to work with certain styles of accessories than others. Gather some "Inspo" pictures together and discuss them as you talk through your favoured hairstyles.
Veils, birdcage veils, and blushers
Like hair pieces, this again doesn't have to be decided ahead of your hair trial appointment. You can also discuss with your stylist if you are planning on wearing one or not. Veils can be weighty, especially if you choose to have a beautiful cathedral-length veil. Even shorter veils can have pearls or lace attached that can add to the weight. Any weight placed on the hair will slightly flatten or move the hair but it shouldn't affect your style. Birdcages cover part of your face so make sure your hair and makeup artist are aware if you are choosing this style. Talk through any concerns you have with your stylist at your trial. There is always a way to make your vision come to life.
Hair & Makeup
Some Brides have separate hair and makeup stylists and some choose to have one style done by an artist. In this case, when going for your Bridal trial you will only be having either hair or makeup done. If you are only having your makeup done, give yourself a little blow dry or tighten your hair into a little bun. If you have a hair trial booked, apply a little makeup. It's hard to see the whole vision if you have your hair done but no makeup on. This helps reflect how you may look on your wedding day and it will give you a lift making you feel a little more glamorous and put together.
I hope these tips help you obtain the best out of your Bridal hair and makeup trial. The little details are often forgotten but will help you reach a more realistic idea of your wedding day look, and leave you feeling that little bit more elegant and ready for your big day. It's all in the details.
